Today we have Jason Pchajek, author of the Cli-fi novel Bounty.
Jason will be in Toronto on May 22nd at Bakka-Phoenix to sign books!
If you somehow missed it, you can catch Part 1 here. Last time, on the Road to Publication… August 22, 2022 The contract with Ravenstone (an imprint of Turnstone) had been signed! This meant it was official: Pale Grey Dot was sold. I’d handled contracts before, both as the publisher and published, but those were for short stories. No, this one was much larger. The key sections covered were: September 13, 2022 I had a little questionnaire to fill out for Turnstone. These are for things like social media information, my personal biography, previous publications, a favourite excerpt, and the inspiration for the book. Why? Because these are the sorts of things useful for press releases, book fairs, and the sales force (i.e. selling directly to bookstores). I actually wish I knew more about how the sales force works. TDotSpec‘s advertising was mostly through Social Media and word of mouth,…
I’ve been asked a whole bunch of times how exactly the sale of Pale Grey Dot to Turnstone Press went down, and since I have a terrible memory I figured this would be a good chance to write it out. So join me for a glimpse into the wild (and slow) world of traditional indie publishing. In the beginning… The major push to write the book happened in 2018, with work prior to that including a ton of reviews by my first team o’ beta readers (Jennifer, Kirby, Pat, and Toronto SFF‘s very own Suzanne), the Toronto SFF Saturday group, and my second round o’ beta readers (Michelle, Randal, and Anahita). I sent out about seventy requests to both US and Canadian agents and publishers, usually in batches of five. The theory here being that if you get five responses with zero nibbles, then your query, synopsis, or first X…
I’ve been happy to see the feedback on the interviews with James Downe and Peter G. Reynolds. They’ve put out some phenomenal works and I’m looking forward to more from them…
Yes, the cat’s out of the bag! My debut sci-fi novel, PALE GREY DOT, has been sold to Ravenstone (an imprint of Turnstone Press). You can read the official announcement here. Pale Grey Dot (or possibly Pale Gray Dot… we’ll see) tells the story of three ex spies, disgraced and exiled after a mission gone horrible wrong, forced to reunite to deal with a conspiracy to take over the solar system’s totalitarian government. I’ve been working on this for a couple years now. This is the culmination of long nights of writing, long days of getting feedback from the Toronto Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers Group, and back to long nights of revisions. I’m excited to share more with you as the process continues and I have a better timeline of when Pale Grey Dot will be hitting book stores near you.
